Take steps to get steps…

How do people log over 10,000 steps a day??? Well, you have to take steps to get steps. This was my revelation last month when I joined a step challenge.

For the entire month of September, I was supposed to log a minimum of 7,000 steps a day. My daily average was around 4,000 or less…and some days were only 2,000 steps. The struggle of working a desk job in a tiny office makes it really difficult. I wanted to do this challenge, so I had to get strategic!!

My strategy for Monday-Friday was to do a 45-minute treadmill workout on Apple Fitness+. This would get me to 2 miles before I left for work (1 mile=2,500 steps). This essentially would create some room to accommodate a low 2,000 step day at the office while guarantying a total of 7,000 steps at the end of the day with ease.

Now, the next problem to solve was getting steps on the weekends. I knew for a fact it was going to be a challenge!! So, I talked to my husband about it and asked him to help me. Of course, he totally had my back and agreed to go on walks with me both Saturday and Sunday each week. This was actually so much fun! We found different parks to go to and had little adventures in nature together. It was a blast and so we decided to keep this in our weekend routine going forward.

I am happy to report that the September step challenge was a success! I created some new habits and routines to support my healthy lifestyle…which in hindsight, I realize this is the whole point of a challenge.
