That once-in-a-lifetime vacation to Maui was the absolute perfect way to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. It’s a long flight, but well worth it! My first impression of Maui is that it is the most photogenic place I have ever been! You literally cannot take a bad pic – no fancy skills required. Every picture look just like a postcard without even trying!!

We stayed at the Fairmont Kea Lani – which was phenomenal! As a special anniversary gift, they upgraded our room to the Kilohana Corner Suite and sent up a chilled bottle of Dom Pérignon. CHEERS! 🥂

Here’s a recap of excursions during our stay:
We drove the Road to Hana in a Jeep (and of course we took the roof off!) – what a ride! This is a must-do if you are ever in Maui – both the Jeep and the Road to Hana. The views are like no other!! The twists and turns on this very slim road had us doing a max of 15 mph. You have to take turns with other cars to go over the one-car bridges. (Beware – the locals ride your tail until you pull off to let them by because they do not want to go 15 mph!) We used an app that gave a guided tour via GPS called GyPSy Guide. It was a totally amazing tour that we highly recommend. There are many stops and lots to do on this excursion!! You can’t possibly do it all, so plan accordingly.

We hiked Pipiwai Trail located on the backside (South-East Side) of Haleakalā National Park. The 4-mile round trip trail runs through a bamboo forest to see Waimoku Falls. The bamboo clicks and clacks with the breeze – almost creepy but in a peaceful way, if that makes sense. We had a light rain coming down on us as we hiked through the rainforest portion of the trail. Then the trail opened up to see the falls. SPECTACULAR!

We went to the Old Lāhainā Lūʻau. One word to describe this experience – WOW! The outdoor venue is on the water with a gorgeous sunset view. Local vendors were on-site selling their crafts. The food was fantastic and the entertainment was absolutely incredible! How do those hula dancers do that with their hips??

We booked the Maui Gold Pineapple Farm Tour on a whim since it was only a 90-minute tour. I have to say we totally underestimated this one! I didn’t know anything about pineapples, so getting a behind-the-scenes experience with farmers hand-picking pineapples in front of us was truly engaging and informative. Oh and we got to taste a fresh pineapple right there in the middle of the farm! Don’t sleep on this excursion if you’re in Maui.

The best dinner we had was at Kō, which was at our hotel. Since it was our anniversary, they seated us at the most romantic table with the best sunset view. The food was superb, but in that setting I’m sure anything would have tasted as delicious as the ambience.

If we weren’t on an excursion, we spent our days driving around the island in the Jeep, hanging out on our balcony, relaxing at the beach and lounging at our pool cabana. Much needed down-time and the perfect celebration of our life together!
As always, I’m rooting for you in your health and fitness journey!
CHEERS! xoxo
